ChooseWell

Frequently asked questions

What is ChooseWell?

ChooseWell is a shopping app for iPhone and Android. Scan a product's barcode and it shows the maker's political spending, safety recalls and flagged ingredients, nutrition against targets you set, and ratings from other shoppers, all from public records with the source on every screen.

Was ChooseWell called Shopper Assist?

Yes. The app launched as Shopper Assist in September 2026 and became ChooseWell in late October 2026. Same app, same company (Shopper Assist, LLC), same data.

Is ChooseWell free?

The first 7 days are free with everything included. After that it is a monthly or annual subscription through the App Store or Google Play. There is no free tier and no ads.

Do I need an account?

No. ChooseWell has no logins. Your subscription is tied to your Apple ID or Google account, and anything you submit is tied to a random identifier on your phone, not to you.

Does ChooseWell track me?

No. The app sends your searches and scans to its server to look them up and keeps no record of who sent them. There is no advertising identifier and no third-party analytics. Cart screenshots are read on the phone and never uploaded.

Is ChooseWell politically neutral?

Yes. It shows disclosed spending and contributions from public filings and does not endorse or oppose any company, party, candidate or cause. The only label it applies is a spending level, and the thresholds are published.

Is ChooseWell a government app?

No. It is made by Shopper Assist, LLC, a private company in Brooklyn, New York, and is not affiliated with, endorsed by or acting for any government agency.

What does the political indicator measure?

Disclosed political spending connected to the company since 2024: corporate PAC contributions, federal lobbying, Super PAC giving and state-level giving. High is $100,000 or more, Moderate is $10,000 to $100,000, Low is under $10,000 or nothing found.

Which states does ChooseWell cover?

State campaign-finance records from 46 states plus the District of Columbia and New York City. The states not yet covered, and the reason for each, are listed in the app under State coverage.

Why does a product show 'maker not identified'?

The product's record in the public databases has no brand or company. Photograph the package in the app and the maker is added from the label.

How do I check a whole shopping cart?

Open Check a cart in the app and choose a screenshot of your Instacart, DoorDash, Amazon or Walmart cart. The item names are read on your phone and each one is looked up.

Can ChooseWell check a car?

Yes. Type the vehicle identification number and it shows the make, model and year, that model year's open safety recalls from NHTSA, and the maker's political spending.

How do I report wrong information?

Email [email protected] with the product or candidate name and what looks off. Corrections are checked against the original public source.

How do I cancel?

Through your phone, not the app: Settings › Apple ID › Subscriptions on iPhone, or Google Play › Subscriptions on Android. Cancelling keeps access until the end of the paid period.
